Port Glasgow Community Hub
One of Port Glasgow’s oldest buildings has been revitalised into one of its most forward-looking community resources. The King George VI Building, dating back to the 1700s, has undergone a meticulous £3.2 million restoration—combining historic charm with best-in-class energy efficiency, now earning an A+ rating that surpasses net-zero standards.
This Category B listed landmark—formerly a Masonic Hall, school, and headmaster’s residence—is preserved and repurposed by Inverclyde Council in collaboration with the Scottish Government, with funding of £1.8 million and £1.4 million respectively.
Opened in May 2025 to mark Port Glasgow’s 250th anniversary, the Community Hub fully embraces its new role: a vibrant and inclusive space nurturing education, well-being, and local connection.
